Making Grain Spawn Using Jars
· . grain
· . jars and lids
· . Pressure cooker or autoclave
· *I use an induction plate and 23L induction Pressure cooker indoors. It is quick safe and Efficient. Induction plates often have Timer settings Aswell so they auto shut off after the desired amount of time.

Procedure
- · Grain, I prefer millet and winter rye but a multitude of various grains can be used for this process.
- · Soak your grain for 12-24 hours to germinate any endospores
- · Bring your grain to a boil ounce your grain has reached boiling point and is properly hydrated it should be swollen and still firm not squishy or mushy. Usually right at boiling or 5 mins of cooking in the boiling water will be the perfect consistency.
- · Drain the water in a colander and lay the grain out on a towel to air dry you want the grain hydrated and slightly moist on the outside if you place a few pieces on paper towel its should not leave any moisture on the paper towel or very little. A fan can be used to speed up the process.
- · Fill your canning jars so theirs about 2 inches of space between the top layer of grain and the top of the canning jar. If the jars are overfilled it may take a lot longer for the grain to fully colonize. It may cause issues with air exchange etc... as well.
- · place your lids on the jars and cover with a layer of tinfoil. I often skip the foil as its not necessarily needed. Once the jars are done cooking and your PC has depressurized if you remove the jars while still hot and dab away the moisture on the lids and filters, they dry quickly and you can skip the foil process. Unless you are using syringe filters.
- · Cook your grain spawn jars at 15 PSI for 1.5 hrs. 90mins. You can let them cool in the cooker or remove ounce the PC is depressurized. I like to remove mine as soon as its depressurized grab a pair of oven mitts and shake the jars to break up any clumps of grain before they are cool as it’s more difficult later on to do this. Some people add gypsum to their spawn to prevent clumping if that’s something you wish to do, do some reading online as to how much and when to add it to your spawn.
